Been in an R440 like this (newer cab) and the first thing you notice is the cab space. I’m 187cm and you can stand up straight, no messing around. Makes a difference when you’re getting dressed or just moving around inside.
Storage is everywhere. Little shelves, pockets, stuff actually opens easy with one hand. The two fridges thing is real nice on the road, plus the interior lights are thought out, not blasting you when you crack the door.
Driving position feels more like a car than most tractors. Mirrors and visibility are strong, you can see what’s going on close to the right front wheel and down the side, less guessing in tight yards. The auto box is smooth, no drama. Stock audio is surprisingly good too, I didn’t expect that.
Downside? The ride feels a bit on the firm side compared to some Volvos, you feel it on rough pavement. And price… yeah, it’s not cheap for what is basically a fairly standard spec inside.

Ran an R440 (2012) for a few months, around 12.5k km. Cab is the main reason I don’t hate long trips in it. Lots of shelves and little cubbies everywhere, decent fridge, curtains are actually thick so you can sleep, and the standstill AC works. Seat folds and you can make more room, plus the steering wheel tilt is nice when you’re climbing in/out all day.
On the road it feels softer than people talk about. I came off a Volvo and I didn’t find this Scania "hard" at all. Mirrors are big and you can see the trailer in turns, fewer sketchy blind spots. Retarder has 5 steps and it holds you back well, I mostly used 3, more on long drops.
Not gonna lie, it did ask for some attention: compressor work, air system stuff (PGU), moisture separator, and I had an electrical relay issue that threw a bunch of errors until it got sorted. After that it was fine. Only thing that bugs me in the cab is the sleeper setup with those pouf/ottoman bits eating some space… I’d rather have a flatter bunk area.
Overall, comfy to live in, drives easy, just keep an eye on the air/electrics on an older one.
